Teaching Ideas and Resources:

English

  • Imagine that you could interview Peter Han. What questions would you ask him? How might he respond?
  • Make a set of instructions to teach others how to make their own chalk art, based on Peter Han's techniques.

Maths

  • Look at the shapes used in the illustrations. Can you make your own chalk art that uses simple shapes as a starting point?

Computing

  • Take some digital photos of various people / objects / places. Can you edit using the filters / features of different photography software so that they look like hand-drawn images?
  • Take your own photos and use these as a reference for your own drawings.

Art

  • The video discusses the differences between drawing on paper and on chalk boards. Try the same drawing on each type of material and explain which you prefer. Why?
  • Can you create your own chalk drawings?
  • Look at how Peter Han creates his drawings in the video. How does he start each illustration? What does he do next? How are the drawings shaded? Could you try to copy one of his designs, or use his techniques in your own work?
  • Work with others to create a gigantic chalk drawing on a playground.

History

  • Find out about the history of art. When were the first drawings / paintings made? What materials were used? How has art changed throughout history?
